在报上随便说的话也会有极大的影响力,所以尽量避免使用直接的形容, 这种情形在英语也一样,正如我们避免用“死”字,英美人也很少说
He died,他们会说:
He went to his rewards. (他去领奖了.)
He fell asleep. (他躺下长眠了.)
He passed away. (他离去了.)
He breathed his last. (他咽下了最后一口气.)
如是军人就绝不会说:
He was killed. (他被杀了.)
kill是禁忌字.他们会说:
He fell in battle. (他为国捐躯.)
关于“溺死”也避免使用drown,而形容说:
The sailor was “lost at set“. (海军士兵“沉没在海里”.)
