it works 和it helps 都用来表示某种方法或手段“管用”或“有效”。但 it works 是用来指主要的或根本性的方法、手段，而it helps 是指次要的、辅助性的手段或方法。
例如，一个人生病了，医生给他开了药，吃了几天之后果然好了。这时他说这药时，可以说"It works"。 如果医生同时建议他要注意适当的营养和休息，他照着作了，病好的快。他可以说医生的建议为“It helps”。
